Wind Technician Training

Northwest Oklahoma is right in the middle of wind development in the United States, and in 2009, High Plains Technology Center became the fist career tech center in the state to offer a wind technician training program, leading the renewable energy training initiative in Oklahoma.

Safety is embedded throughout each module taught at High Plains, and is our highest priority. We partner with Airstreams Renewables, the leading independent wind energy technician training organization in the country, to guarantee our students leave with the skills necessary to become an entry-level wind energy technician. Our niche is to provide potential wind techs with a hands-on, fast track training experience. Each training class currently last approximately five weeks, Monday-Friday.

Due to rescue manufacturers' equipment, students must weigh 285 lbs. or less. The program is taught in English, and subject matter includes climbing at heights; students must be in excellent physical condition.

certifications
Each student receives the following certifications: Medic First Aid, OSHA 10 HR, Electrical Safety Metering, Fall Protection/Tower Rescue/Competent Climber, and WorkKeys assessments. In addition, students build resumes and receive assistance in downloading resumes to industry websites.

Five week classes are not offered on a regular basis. The next wind technician class is tentatively scheduled for a late fall start date; however, applications are being accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
